If your quiet time looks more like a prayer whispered over a sink full of dishes than an hour with a journal and a latte, this post is for you.
Somewhere along the way, a lot of us picked up the idea that a “real” relationship with Jesus looks a certain way. Early alarm. Open Bible. Silence. Maybe a highlighter set. And then real life happens: work, packed lunches, a toddler who wakes up the second your feet hit the floor. The quiet time gets skipped, and the guilt moves in.
Here’s the good news. Jesus isn’t waiting for you to have a calmer season before He meets you. He’s already in this one, in the carpool line, the late-night laundry, and the whispered “help me” before you walk into work. Let’s talk about what faith can look like when you’re a busy mom who’s doing her best.
Jesus Knows What a Full Day Feels Like
It’s easy to forget how busy Jesus’s life was. Crowds followed Him everywhere. People needed healing, answers, and food. Mark tells us that at one point, so many people were coming and going that Jesus and His disciples “did not even have a chance to eat” (Mark 6:31, NIV). Sound familiar?
So what did Jesus do? He made space, even small space, to be with His Father. “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed” (Mark 1:35). Luke adds that He “often withdrew to lonely places and prayed” (Luke 5:16).
Notice what these verses don’t say. They don’t say how long He prayed, or that He had a perfect routine. They show a pattern: stepping away, often, to reconnect. That’s something a busy mom can do too, even if “stepping away” means five minutes in a parked car.
Martha, Mary, and Letting Go of the Guilt
Most of us know the story in Luke 10. Jesus visits the home of two sisters. Mary sits at His feet and listens, while Martha rushes around getting everything ready. Frustrated, Martha asks Jesus to tell Mary to help. Jesus answers gently: “Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one” (Luke 10:41–42).
As moms, we can read that and feel like Jesus is scolding us. But look closer. He says her name twice, the way you’d speak to someone you love. He isn’t asking Martha to stop caring for people. He’s inviting her to stop carrying it all alone and to come sit with Him in the middle of it.
That’s the invitation for us too. Not “do more spiritual things,” but “come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). Faith for a busy mom isn’t another item on the to-do list. It’s where we set the list down for a minute.
6 Simple Ways to Connect With Jesus in a Busy Day
None of these require an extra hour. Pick one or two that fit your life right now.
- Pray one sentence before your feet hit the floor. Before you check your phone, try: “Jesus, walk with me today.” It takes five seconds and sets the tone for everything after.
- Turn the car into your prayer closet. The drive to work or school pickup is often the only quiet you get. Turn the radio off for the first few minutes and talk to God like you’d talk to a friend.
- Put scripture where your eyes already go. Tape a verse to the bathroom mirror, the fridge, or above the kitchen sink. Swap it out weekly. You’ll memorize it without trying.
- Listen instead of read. A Bible app with audio or a short devotional podcast works while you fold laundry, meal prep, or walk.
- Pray with your kids, not just for them. Bedtime or mealtime prayers count as your time with Jesus too. Little ones love simple prayers like “thank you for today, help us be kind tomorrow.” Another thing I have started doing with my kids at bedtime is aasking them to tell Jesus what they’re thankful for (I stole this one from a friend, thank you, Jess)!
- Try “breath prayers” for hard moments. Inhale: “Jesus, I need you.” Exhale: “You are with me.” It’s calming, it’s portable, and it works in a meltdown (theirs or yours).
The goal isn’t a perfect streak. It’s turning toward Jesus a little more often than you did yesterday.
A Short Prayer for Busy Moms
If you don’t know where to start, pray this today:
Jesus, my days are full and my energy runs out fast. Thank you that you meet me right here, not after everything is done. Help me notice you in the ordinary moments. Give me patience with my kids, grace for myself, and rest for my heart. When I feel like I’m falling short, remind me that I’m already loved. Amen.
Save it to your phone, screenshot it, or write it on a sticky note for your dashboard.
You’re Not Behind
You are not failing at faith because your quiet time doesn’t look like someone else’s. Being healthy isn’t only about what’s on your plate or how often you work out. It’s also about caring for your heart and your spirit, and Jesus is the best place to start.
So tomorrow, try just one thing from this list. Then come back and tell me in the comments: where do you find time with Jesus in your busy day? I’d love to hear what works for you, and it might be exactly what another mom needs to read.
